About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Global Cardiology Science & Practice is an international peer reviewed journal dedicated to keeping cardiologists abreast of advances in the influence of basic science on clinical practice.
The journal will publish in-depth reviews by international experts in the field and is based partly on material presented at the meetings bearing the same name.
The journal will also publish original material and case studies judged to have important influence on practice in all aspects of cardiology.

All research published in the Journal adheres to ICMJE Recommendations.

The journal is a 'platinum' open access journal, whereby the Article Processing Charges (APCs) for the journal are paid for by a sponsoring institution. In this case all APCs are covered by the Magdi Yacoub Institute, and the authors do not have to arrange for any payment on acceptance.

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts are sent for review unless they are out of scope or below the threshold level of the journal.
The manuscripts will be sent to two experts for an informed recommendation on whether the articles should be accepted for publication. Statistical reviewers are also used where necessary.
We employ a 'single-blind' reviewing system (where the reviewer remains anonymous to author, but the reviewer knows the identity of the author)
Once the reviews have been received by the editor, a decision is made whether to accept the manuscript, ask for a revised version, or reject it. Ultimate responsibility for editorial decisions rests with the Editor-in-chief of the journal.
Reviewers are asked to declare any competing interests.

Publication Frequency

The Journal publishes 4 issues per year.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Policy on Human and Animal Rights & Drug Names

The manuscript should include details of the design of the study, setting, participants and materials involved, and the type of analysis used.
Particular attention should be paid to the following scenarios:

Use of animals: State the species, strain, number used, and pertinent descriptive characteristics. When describing surgical procedures, identify the pre-anesthetic and anesthetic agents used and the amounts, concentrations, routes, and frequency of administration of each.
Human studies: Indicate that the study was approved by an appropriate institutional ethics committee and that the subject gave informed consent [NB proof of written consent from the subject may be asked for at time of submission]
Drugs & devices: List the name and manufacturer of all reagents, equipment and devices used in the study. Generic, rather than trademark, names are preferred.

Policy on Informed Consent

For all research involving human subjects, informed consent to participate in the study should be obtained from participants (or their parent or legal guardian in the case of children under 16) and a statement to this effect should appear in the manuscript.

For all manuscripts that include details, images, or videos relating to individual participants, written informed consent for the publication of these must be obtained from the participants (or their parent or legal guardian in the case of children under 16) and a statement to this effect should appear in the manuscript. If the participant has died, then consent for publication must be sought from the next of kin of the participant. Authors should use a consent form from their own institution or region. This documentation must be made available to the Editor if requested, and will be treated confidentially. In cases where images are entirely unidentifiable and there are no details on individuals reported within the manuscript, consent for publication of images may not be required. The final decision on whether consent to publish is required lies with the Editor.

Complaints, Corrections, & Retractions

All complaints in the first instance should be directed to the Editorial Office at submissions@gcsp.co.uk

If the author is unhappy with any response, it will be raised with the wider Editorial Board.

If the author is still unhappy, advice will be sought from COPE - the Committee for Publication Ethics.

Corrections to the scientific literature can be made as an Erratum or Corrigendum to the original article.

Retractions will only be made under the COPE guidelines.
